Dr. Tracey Maione, DVM

Medical Director, Oz Animal Hospital

Dr. Maione's Bio

Dr. Tracey Maione hails from the University of Illinois earning both her Bachelor’s degree of pre-veterinary science and her doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in Urbana-Champaign.  She grew up in Chicago and the near north suburbs, but has claimed the north side of Chicago as her beloved home base for the last 9 years.  Dr. Maione has had 9 years of clinical experience in 3 veterinary practices before transitioning to her recent ownership and medical directorship of Oz Animal Hospital.  One practice was the University of Illinois’ teaching hospital and referral center which tasked her with training future graduates in the field on the most progressive medical practices while working side by side with boarded specialists in internal medicine, behavior, oncology, rehabilitation, and surgery, to afford her patients the latest and best the field has to offer.  She brings her passions of medical care that is thorough and holistic in approach, up to date, and affordable for the families of her furry patients.

She is well known in Chicago for her outreach efforts in encouraging and mentoring youths of all ages to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.  Dr. Maione also believes in public education and outreach and routinely gives educational seminars on various health topics from community events, to radio shows, blogs, journals and television.

Dr. Maione is an active member of the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association because she believes in supporting the profession on the bigger picture levels such as local politics and legislation that involves animals, animal welfare issues facing the Chicago-land area, and enhancing public understanding of the value of veterinarians to their communities.  She is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical AssociationIllinois State Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Animal Hospital Association.

At home with the help of her loving husband Paul, she takes care of 3 dogs: A rambunctious 3-legged Boxer named Ramona, a suspect Pit Bull/Shar-Pei or Chow mix named Loza, and smokey grey and sometimes moody minature poodle named Fredo. Outside of the field her favorite hobby is international travel.

Dr. Ana Valbuena, DVM

Dr. Valbuena's Bio

Dr. Ana Valbuena is a recent graduate and new Chicago resident. She received her Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences from Florida International University and left the sunshine state to pursue her doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

Having been born in Cuba and spending years in Nicaragua before moving to Florida, Dr. Valbuena is no stranger to new environments and change. She understands that veterinary visits can prove to be stressful for not only our furry companions but their human counterparts, as well. Dr. Valbuena is passionate about the human-animal bond and wishes to enhance it through good preventative medicine and comprehensive medical care, working together with pet parents to achieve the best quality of life and least stress for all involved.

In her spare time, Dr. Valbuena enjoys hand embroidering and spending time with her partner, Diego, and their two cats, Ziggy and Weasley.

Recibió su Bachillerato en Ciencias Biológicas atraves de la Universidad Internacional de Florida y dejó el estado de la Florida para continuar su doctorado en Medicina Veterinaria atraves de la Universidad de Illinois en Urbana-Champaign.

Habiendo nacido en Cuba y pasado años en Nicaragua antes de mudarse a la Florida, la Dra. Valbuena no es ajena a los nuevos ambientes y al cambio. Ella entiende que las visitas veterinarias pueden resultar estresantes no solo para nuestras mascotas, sino también para sus padres. La Dra. Valbuena es apasionada por la conexion humana-animal y desea mejorarla a través de medicina preventiva y atención médica integral, trabajando junto con los padres de mascotas para lograr una mejor calidad de vida y menos estrés para todos los involucrados.

En su tiempo libre, la Dra. Valbuena disfruta bordar a mano y pasar tiempo con su pareja, Diego, y sus dos gatos, Ziggy y Weasley.

Dr. Jesse Navatta, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Navatta's Bio
Dr. Jesse Navatta was born and raised in New York and graduated from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. Immediately after graduating, he moved to Chicago and has enjoyed living here since.

He has been a member of the Veterinary field since he was 14 years old, starting as a kennel assistant at the local veterinary clinic. Driven by his passion for the profession and a desire to serve animals, he obtained his license as a Veterinary Technician and worked his way through his undergraduate degree, taking one year off to work at Cornell’s teaching animal hospital. Throughout his career, he has worked for the Bronx Zoo and other New York City zoos, small animal clinics, wildlife programs, exotic and specialty practices, and shelter programs. He is devoted to broadening the scope of diversity and inclusion in Veterinary medicine and is an active member of the community.

Outside of work, he enjoys practicing a balanced life with yoga, running, gardening, skiing, hiking, and exploring Chicago’s neighborhoods. Since moving to Chicago, one of his most favorite activities has been exploring new neighborhoods and restaurants with his partner and taking in all of the sights, sounds, and architecture.

Paul's Bio

Paul Maione, Practice Manager, has been in the Customer Service Industry for 29 years, but his favorite stint by far has been working at Oz for the last 1.5 years.

He finds himself thoroughly engaged with the staff and rewarded by witnessing patients and clients receiving the highest level of care. Paul’s dog Fredo, aka “Oscar The Grouch”, insists on accompanying him daily to work. Besides his passion for working at Oz he loves spending time with his wife Dr. Tracey Hlede, and weekend golf outings with his friends and family.


Practice Manager
Ashley's Bio
Ashley has been a Care Coordinator here since 2014 and has brought with her years of experience in the veterinary industry. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from Southern Illinois University of Carbondale and a diverse work background that includes Drafting, Project Management, Art Supplies Sales, and even being a Barista. Amongst her many talents, she finds interacting with pets and their owners most rewarding of all. Her pets at home include 2 cats and 1 dog – ranging in age from 2 to 17 years old. She is also currently fostering an additional cat and hopes to continue helping out foster pets in the future.

Ashley’s hobbies include blogging, crafting, being an apologetic coffee snob, and leaving rap voicemails.


Practice Manager
Sam's Bio
Sam has been in the veterinary field for 15 years. Throughout her career, she has been able to work in many different fields of veterinary medicine including exotics, wildlife, and dentistry. She loves all aspects of working with animals but has a soft spot for seniors. To her, one of the most rewarding things about working with animals is being an advocate for them and their owners to be able to give them the best possible care. By doing this she has been able to build great bonds with families.

Sam shares her household with her husband, 3 boys and 3 dogs – Fiona, Marlee, and Boo. When she’s not at sports events she enjoys baking, traveling, attending dog events and exploring the city- especially around the holidays!


Office Manager

Kyle's Bio

Kyle was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and lived around the South and Midwest before settling in Chicago a few years ago. He volunteered with rescue groups in high school and his first pet care job was cleaning kennels in a rescue. He then moved to a daycare/boarding/vet facility and worked up from Daycare Attendant to Manager. Kyle also learned a ton about pet nutrition through a job at a small pet food chain. He doesn’t currently have any pets at home but grew up with dogs. His parents currently have 2 dogs, Biscuit & Rain, that he loves to send treats to. In Kyle’s free time he enjoys singing and songwriting.

Veterinary Technician, CVT
Marley's Bio
Marley is a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) and graduated from the Vet Tech Institute at Fox College with an Associate’s Degree. She was a Cosmetologist for several years before making the decision in 2017 to switch to the veterinary field in search of a career that would bring her a sense of fulfillment and purpose. Since she was a little girl, she has always had a deep love and empathy for all animals and has found the purpose she was looking for as a CVT providing quality animal care. Her career change has been the best decision she’s ever made!

In her free time, she enjoys drawing, reading books/comics, going for walks, and is an avid moviegoer with her partner Adam. They also have 2 cat kids named Drake & Bowie, and a basset named Sully, who bring them endless amounts of love and joy!

Yirald's Bio
Yirald has lived in Chicago his whole life and worked as a Technician for 8 years before coming to Oz. He has had many dogs during his life, including 2 now named Taco and Chirpy, plus a cat named Morgan.

On his free days he loves to watch standup comedy, play sports, travel with friends, and watch tons of movies.


Veterinary Technician, CVT
Carley's Bio
Carley has wanted to work in the Veterinary field ever since she was a little girl. She graduated from a Veterinary Technician program in August of 2019 and will be taking the VTNE to become certified in March 2020. She is from the Northwest suburbs of Chicago and will be moving into the city at the beginning of March!

Carley has 2 cats, Meow Meow & Frankie, and a dog named Sadie. Her hobbies include hanging out with friends & family, going to concerts, running, playing PC games, and watching movies.


Veterinary Technician, CVT
Maya's Bio

Maya graduated from Fox College as a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) in 2014 and is an aspiring Veterinarian. She is the Mother of 2- and 4-legged children alike – she has 2 biological children, 8 step-children, plus an American Bully (Vixen) and a Shorty Bull (Bane). Maya is family and goal-oriented and wants to be someone her children can look up to.


Veterinary Technician

Dexter's Bio

Dexter has been in the Veterinary industry for 10 years now and has worked at a cat shelter and a few other clinics. They have a soft spot for working with special needs cats and used to foster/socialize feral kittens. Dexter currently has 4 rescue cats of their own and their roommates have another 4!

In Dexter’s spare time they enjoy running marathons, rock climbing, karaoke, and changing the lyrics of songs to be about cats. Jurassic Park is their favorite movie and they love to go to Disney World! You can expect Dexter’s hair to be a different color each time you see them.


Veterinary Assistant
Holly's Bio
Holly is an aspiring veterinarian who dreams of working with many different animals. She graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and minor in Biology with a focus on pre-veterinary medicine. She has always loved working with animals anywhere from an injured bird or squirrel to a cat or dog in need of love to a horse in need of a hoof trim. Her love for animals combined with her passion for connecting with people on a more personal level are at the root of her desire to become a veterinarian. She has many furry kids of her own at home, including 2 dogs (Daisy & Cocoa), 3 cats (Reeses, Trooper, & Penny), and 2 guinea pigs (Newt & Kino).

When she is not snuggling with animals, she enjoys running, knitting, reading mystery books, camping, hiking, and hanging out with her family and boyfriend.

Cassandra's Bio

Cassandra studied at Morton College in the Veterinary Assistant program through ML Education in 2019. She worked for a cat rescue and has experience with sweet (and not so sweet!) cats. Cassandra was born in California and had animals growing up (cats, dogs, and fish). She has 3 young daughters as well a 2 male cats – Jack-Jack is a tuxedo kitty & Meeko is a Maine Coon mix. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her daughters and loves to read.

Kimberli's Bio
Kimberli is originally from Michigan, but she has spent the last 15 years living in lovely Chicago. She has worked at a variety of interesting places in the city, like Steppenwolf Theatre Company, the Goodman Theatre, and The Anti-Cruelty Society, as well as a variety of veterinary clinics. She is happy to begin her third year at Oz Animal Hospital.

In her spare time, Kimberli runs a cat retirement home in her small apartment with three residents: Bert (12), Vinnie (14), and Mishka (15). She also volunteers with Precious Pets Almost Home, a foster-based rescue for cats.


Senior Client Care Coordinator
Kristy's Bio
Kristy worked at a Humane Society for 6 years starting out as a receptionist and then later as a supervisor. She then worked at a vet clinic for 1 year before moving to Chicago in May of 2019. She is from Colorado and enjoys floating the river & going hiking with her dogs. She has two shelter dogs; an 8-year-old papillon mix and a 9-year-old chug (chihuahua/pug).

Rolando's Bio
Rolando was born and raised here in Chicago. He has worked in the vet world for 18 years now as a receptionist, kennel assistant, and technician. He typically does receptionist and technician work at the hospitals he has worked at and really enjoys doing both. He doesn’t currently have any pets of his own, but his family has a dog (Zeus Shih Tzu) and a cat (Raven DSH black) that he helps take care of.

In his free time, Rolando enjoys going to the movies, playing video games, and going to the museums here in Chicago. He has a pretty big family here in Chicago and really enjoys spending time with them & going out with his amazing friends.

Jacky's Bio

Jacky was born and raised in Chicago and has a Puerto Rican/Mexican background. She has 2 fur babies – Princess (A 10-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier who’s a total “Momma’s girl”) and Casper (an independent 2-year-old cat). Jacky enjoys spending time with her pets going on car rides, listening to music, snacking, being outdoors, and of course vegging out at home/cuddling on the couch. In her spare time, Jacky loves to cook/bake, and reading/writing poetry.

Jessie's Bio

Jessie has been in the Veterinary world for almost 2 years and never plans on leaving. She is working towards getting certified as a Veterinary Technician. She has a passion for animals and has volunteered at almost all of the animal shelters in Chicago since she was 18 years old.

Jessie was a nanny for 10 years but always wanted a career working with animals. She has owned all types of pets including reptiles, bunnies, and dogs. She is currently the Mom of 4 furry dogs – a Chihuahua, Frenchie, Pomeranian, and a Yorkie. In her spare time, Jessie loves to travel, and when not in Chicago you can find her in Miami, Florida.

Cecilia's Bio

Cecilia was born and raised in the Little Village neighborhood in Chicago. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has 4 years’ experience working in the Veterinary field in under-served communities. She has volunteered in many animal rescue shelters and has a soft spot for feral cats and rescue kittens!

In her free time, Cecilia enjoys dressing up her cat, Monkey, trying new restaurants, and watching food traveling shows.

Brenda's Bio

Brenda grew up in New York, Virginia, and Los Angeles, but lived in San Diego for most of her childhood, moving to Chicago in 1998. Her background is in administration, but spending time with animals has always been an important part of her life. While working as a Vet’s Assistant at Tree House Humane Society for 5 years, she also ran a small business in animal care, which remained in operation until 2019. Though she hasn’t met animals of every species, of those she has met, she feels she understands horses, dogs, and cats the very best, and she doesn’t understand ferrets at all.

Dr. Katy S. King, DC

Doctor of Chiropractic
Dr. King's Bio
Dr. Katie King attended undergraduate classes at the University of Illinois where she learned about the human body, chemistry, physiology, and other general health topics. She left the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree. She continued her education by enrolling in the doctorate program at Logan College of Chiropractic where she was introduced to further strenuous coursework in the basic sciences, human diagnostics, clinical sciences, and chiropractic practice. Dr. Katie excelled in all of her national board certification examinations for chiropractic and physical therapy. She took a postgraduate course in Acupuncture and received her certification in Acupuncture. Dr. Katie received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree upon her completion of her coursework at Logan College of Chiropractic.

During school, Dr. Katie King was very active in extracurricular events, weekend classes, post-graduate classes, and additional training. She joined several groups to help gain a working knowledge and experience so that she can offer premium care to her patients. To further her qualifications, she served those groups as club officers.

Dr. Katie has been awarded academic achievement recognitions by the Dean of Academics several times including the “Post Doctorate Education” award and the “Clinical Excellence” award. She has also earned several other awards which recognized her academic excellence and dedication to the profession.

Amy Blum, CPDT-KSA

Certified Professional Dog Trainer
Amy's Bio
Amy Blum is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KSA), a professional member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, and an active member of the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers Certification Exam Committee. Amy is also certified in Dr. Sophia Yin’s Low-Stress Handling techniques. Amy has been working with animals for over 20 years and she’s been providing professional pet training and behavioral consulting services in Chicago for more than a decade.

Amy has a BA in psychology with a biology minor from UIC. Her academic background includes research and teaching assistantships in behavioral neuroscience, and she was awarded special honors for independent research in animal behavior. She has completed highly regarded animal training internships at the Animal Behavior Center in New York and the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.

She continues her professional development by regularly attending seminars and workshops to stay up-to-date with current research in the field and by participating in respected professional organizations. Amy provides her clients with effective, practical training and behavior solutions to help them successfully navigate “real life” with their dogs. She uses only scientifically sound, dog-friendly training methods that empower dogs to be active and enthusiastic participants in their own training and care.
